Berries such as blueberries, cranberries, strawberries and raspberries contain the most antioxidants among fruits and can even prevent diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, stomach ulcers and even help to lower cholesterol levels.  Blueberries are high in flavonoids and are known to help protect against prostate and urinary tract infection. They are also known to protect against brain damage. Cranberries are perhaps best known for preventing urinary tract infections, but they have also been shown to prevent breast cancer and reduce stomach ulcers. Cranberries can also be used to help decrease LDL. Strawberries are high in antioxidants and vitamin C. They are known to fight heart disease and provide a number of and minerals that support overall human health. Raspberries are known for their ability to fight caner thanks to the phytochemical content and abundant supply of vitamins and minerals. Truth be told, it’s good to choose berries within a variety of colors- blue, red, purple; and be sure to have them in your diet at least a couple of times a week.

It’s interesting to see that nature really provides all that we need and we really shouldn’t pursue all these man-made processed foods that contain unhealthy additives that can only harm our health. If you really want to have a happier life that is disease free, it is imperative to give your body the most optimum nutrition provided by fruits and vegetables. Vegetables like broccoli, garlic, ginger, carrots, cabbage, and onions are examples of foods that you should include in your as part of a healthy and life extending diet. Our digestive systems as they are structured give way to the idea that we should include variety of food colors, which does make sense; if you eat an array of foods with different colors you’ll be less likely to eat foods that have artificial colors added into them.

In American culture, we tend to consume foods that are based primarily on taste, not necessarily on their color. The colors that food manufacturers add in serve only to trick human consumers into believing that their foods are fresh or healthy. The fact is our bodies naturally yearn for foods that are saturated with color such as berries and so the body develops this wisdom to go after foods that have deep rich saturated colors. It is no surprise that most of the food companies use colors that are rich and deep such as yellow, red, or orange, or blue. Be cautious of foods that are not natural and contain rich colors. Usually these foods got their color by way of human engineering and these chemicals are innately harmful to our health.

The good thing about consuming berries is that there are a variety of ways to consume them. You can have them simply fresh and raw as they are or you can place them in a blender, add some ice and consume them in a puree. You can also add some milk to it and have a sweet and rich fruity milkshake. There are also numerous health conscious stores that use fruits to make tasty ice cream dishes or tasty pastries. If we begin to look at consuming foods in terms of consuming various colors and not worrying so much about taste then we will eventually feel healthier and happier.
